Every folder in a user profile has an .ini file as far as I have known Windows.

I just never saw desktop.ini before so I was curious.

I understand, sometimes it can become corrupt and a reboot usually fixes them.

So it's finally happening? I remember hearing they were going to be changing the license to allow for this sort of thing. All I can say is, that's a lot of licensing money you've been prohibiting.

Not quite the same as NFS 3 and NFS 4, but we intentionally use NFS 3 much of the time today even though NFS 4 is old.

This may be good for a fork...but why hang on to NFSv3 instead of stepping up to NFSv4??

Because the work differently and having the overhead of NFSv4 often does not make sense.

      Can you give more detail?

They are very different protocols with a lot of different features. NFSv3 is much lighter than NFSv4.

@obsolesce It's called paravirtualization. And Xen has done it since the 1990s 🙂 Only Xen could do it for the entire VM, not just the drivers.

My answer to the OP. I mean I am not saying MS is good or bad, or Linux OS's are good or bad. But the OP was just a whiny bitch.

FYI - to get into a Volume License agreement with Microsoft, you must purchase 5 licenses to start. Any 5. For example 5 Windows desktops Software Assurance licenses.

The cheapest option that I am currently aware of is 4 Windows Server CALs and a single Windows Desktop upgrade or SA.

I learned something new today. I have been using the shutdown command for years. I never realized you could rename a PC with it.

shutdown doesn't do the renaming, you just have to reboot after you rename.

I use "m" instead of c for computer name

/c is the comment for the logs to tell them that you just "Renamed Machine", it doesn't rename it, it literally puts "Renamed Machine" into the reboot logs.

      Ok. Got ya.

Fonts should never come as an .exe - if they do run away.

They come as native font files, you then install them based on the OS, either Mac or Windows does this easily

No - User accounts are 'left' so that is connection to the AD / DC is lost, then the user can still log on.

That's not totally true, all profiles files are left, that doesn't mean you can still login to it necessarily. There's no process for AD to talk to the local computer to tell it the user was removed. It is just a directory service, The local computer has to request to login to the account. There is no method AD to tell computers anything changed without them requesting.
